The excitation mechanisms and luminescent properties of several aluminate-based phosphors are emphatically described together with the published literature. For SrAl_2O_4 phosphor doped with Eu~(2+),the luminescence of radiation results from the energy transfer between host and activator. The double emission bands of BaCdAl_(10)O_(17) doped with Eu~(2+) as well as energy transfer of that co-doped with Ce~(3+) are interpreted by applying Jahn-Teller effect principle. Finally, upon adding flux in BaCdAl_(10)O_(17):Eu~(2+) system, the effect of Eu~(2+) content on energy transfer as well as the effect of flux on luminescent properties are analyzed.
