Comparison of the body surface area values measured and calculated by Stevenson fomula for modern Chinese

Objectives To study on calulating formula of body surface area that is suited to modern Chinese.Methods The surface area of 40 cases (20 males, 20 females) were exactly measured with the method of sticking paper to skin, and the results regression analysis was formed with SPSS/ PC+ programme in computer.Results The actual value of body surface area was 1.7024±0. 1547m2, and the calculated value of body surface area by stevenson was 1. 5639±0. 1409m2 in Chinese.There were marked differences between value of the body surface area measured and that calculated and with Stevenson fomula (P0. 005), The regression equation of caleulating body surface area was body surface area equals 0. 0071xbody height+0. 013xbody weight-0. 1971.Conclusion Stevenson formula isn't suitable for calculating modren Chinese body surface area.
