Direct regeneration of spent cathode materials by redox system

The efficient recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries is becoming increasingly urgent for the utilization of resources and environmental protection. However, the development of direct regeneration technology is constrained by high material losses, and unsatisfactory electrochemical performance. A novel method is proposed for the direct regeneration of spent cathode materials using the redox system composed of C2H5LiO and O2. After 200 cycles at 1C, the regenerated material retains 91.6 % of its capacity, which is comparable to the performance of commercial LiCoO2. Therefore, a new method is expected to be applied to the direct regeneration of spent cathode materials, which provides theoretical guidance for the efficient and sustainable recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries.
