New Topical and Systemic Treatments for Atopic Dermatitis

ABSTRACT Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition characterised by pruritus and a chronic relapsing–remitting course. Previous topical and systemic treatments for atopic dermatitis were broadly immunosuppressive, which limited their long‐term use. Recently, more targeted therapies for atopic dermatitis have been developed. In this review, we discuss the efficacy and safety of new therapies, including topical PDE4 (phosphodiesterase 4) inhibitors, a topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonist, topical and systemic JAK (Janus kinase) inhibitors and biologics.
