Some Characteristics of Insect Pheromonal Communication

In general, the pheromonal system of communication functions analogously to any other communication system. However, realization of its constituents involves simultaneous usage of a combination of several means: morphological structures, behaviour of the sender or recipient and surroundings. To perceive a pheromonal signal and to process the obtained information there exist specialized morphological structures forming up a pheromonal analyzer. According to the degree of usage of possibilities to affect the behaviour with the help of pheromones all the insects could be divided in the 2 big groups: the first group — the species with fully developed the use of possibilities of pheromonal communication and the second one — the species with not fully developed use of possibilities offered by pheromonal communication.
