Engineered bacteria can degrade five wastewater pollutants at the same time

Five gene clusters have been integrated into the bacterium Vibrio natriegens to engineer a strain that can remediate five organic pollutants — toluene, phenol, naphthalene, biphenyl and dibenzofuran — in industrial waste water and saline soil. Five gene clusters have been introduced into a single rapidly growing bacterial strain.
