A Novel Photocatalytic Ring Opening Reaction of Silacyclobutanes with Alkenes

Comprehensive Summary Herein, we wish to report a novel photocatalytic ring opening reaction of silacyclobutanes (SCBs) with alkenes using hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as the promoter. The protocol is mild and green, and is capable of accommodating a wide range of active alkenes, allowing for the facile synthesis of challenging silanols with a tetraorganosilicon stereocenter in good yields in combination with the following hydrolysis. Notably, this strategy could be extended to the reaction with ethynylbenziodoxolone.
