Specialized electrochemical cells, which have the ability to deoxygenate continuously, may provide an alternative method of minimizing deterioration in museum objects by display or storage in the absence of oxygen. A prototype has been investigated and its ability to reduce the oxygen concentration inside a small, airtight chamber, similar in shape and size to a museum display case, has been measured. Preliminary results are presented.
