Studies were identified from among the highest-rated and most-accessed articles in ACP JournalWise. In diabetes, a large trial showed no adverse cardiovascular consequences of long-term insulin use and no effect of insulin on rates of cancer. A trial of metformin, rosiglitazone, and lifestyle intervention in obese youth with type 2 diabetes showed that treatment failed in half of the participants over approximately 4 years.
