Pragmatic Cultural Differences and Tactics of Polite Language in Cross-cultural Communication: Taking Chinese and English Language for Example

Politeness is a general phenomenon in various societies and groups, and it is the mark of human social civilization. Restricted by culture, politeness has specific characteristic. There are different ways and criteria for expressing and judging politeness. The differences of managing politeness between English and Chinese language are analyzed, aiming at reducing some misunderstanding and cultural conflict in cross-cultural communication.
