A study was conducted on the effect of the compound substrate with sawdust as the main material on the growth and development of Lycopersicum esculentum seedlingThe results showed that Lycopersicum esculentum seedling sowed in coast sawdust germinated without any abnormal phenomenon, but the growth of seedling was slow within 28 d after sowing and had significant difference with the CK While after 28 d, growth of Lycopersicum esculentum seedling in sawdust became fast and at 42 d after sowing, there was no statistically difference between seedlings of sawdust and the CK.So sawdust can be the substitute for peat as seedling substrate
