The contribution to the field of photovoltaic devices based on organic and organometellic polymeric systems has been reviewed. It has been shown that attempts are underway to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells. and great progress in this area has been made, though the efficiencies of the area yet do not rival those constructed inorganic photovoltaic area. A brief review of the theory of photovoltaics, along with some aspects of their characterization, the basic efficient loss mechanisms, and the trends in this research will also be presented.
