To systematically review the development and hot topics of short video addiction research in China, this study used CiteSpace to conduct a bibliometric analysis of 117 relevant articles from the CNKI database from January 2018 to April 2026. The study found that the number of publications in this field started steadily in the early stages, grew rapidly from 2023, and reached its highest point in 2025, showing an overall upward trend. Research efforts are scattered, and a large-scale collaborative network has not yet been formed between institutions and authors. Research hotspots are concentrated on university students and adolescents, exploring the causes of psychological variables such as loneliness and rumination, and extending to intervention programs such as digital cognitive behavioral therapy and physical exercise. In terms of evolution, research started by defining the phenomenon using the framework of internet addiction, and after expanding to multidimensional influencing factors and deep psychological mechanisms, it has now progressed to the stage of developing localized scales and empirically testing interventions. Future research should focus on strengthening inter-institutional and interdisciplinary collaboration (such as communication studies, sociology, and public health), expanding the scope of research subjects, and promoting the standardization of assessment tools and the empirical testing of intervention strategies.
