摘要
This paper presents an extensive case study on the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the development of the Noronha Verde Project (where “verde” means “green” in Portuguese), a 22.82 MWp photovoltaic complex combined with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located on Fernando de Noronha Island, Brazil. The project posed significant challenges due to its remote location, 350 km off the Brazilian coast, its environmental sensitivity as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and complex logistical constraints. The study explores how BIM methodology addresses these challenges in remote renewable energy projects, focusing on risk mitigation, interdisciplinary coordination, environmental impact analysis, and resource optimization. A federated modeling strategy was implemented across three hierarchical levels, supported by cloud-based collaboration through Autodesk Construction Cloud, which served as the Common Data Environment (CDE). 3D coordination tools, automatic clash detection, and more accurate quantity estimates helped identify issues earlier and improved the predictability of the project. Early identification of environmental conflicts—such as flood—prone areas detected during the basic design phase-helped prevent costly delays. The methodology also enabled effective coordination among geographically dispersed teams and ensured precise material specifications, which are critical in logistically constrained environments. Despite these benefits, the study identified challenges such as resistance to methodological changes, uneven BIM expertise among stakeholders, software interoperability issues, and the need for accurate baseline data. Nevertheless, results confirm BIM's strong viability and substantial advantages in remote and environmentally sensitive contexts. The paper concludes that BIM should be highly recommended for renewable energy projects in isolated areas, particularly those with complex environmental constraints and distributed teams. Furthermore, the research highlights the promising potential of integrating BIM with Digital Twin technologies to extend benefits beyond design and construction into operation and maintenance of remote energy infrastructure.
