SF 5 -Synthons: Pathways to Organic Derivatives of SF 6

In this review, the synthesis and use of the primary synthons SF 5 X (X = F, Cl, Br, SF 5 ) in forming organic derivatives of SF 6 will be described. We have found that using primary SF 5 X synthons, convenient pathways exist for preparing secondary synthons that include SF 5 - alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, iodides and aromatics. The primary synthons also offer pathways for preparing and studying the reactive SF 5 +, SF 6 -, and SF 5 · intermediates.
