Knowledge, attitudes, and practices survey on postoperative pain management in gastrointestinal surgery patients: A cross-sectional study

In a cross-sectional study conducted between August 15, 2023, and January 26, 2024, the research focused on exploring the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to postoperative pain management among gastrointestinal surgery patients. Spearman's correlation analysis, logistic regression, explorative factor analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to elucidate KAP interrelationships and influential factors. A total of 528 valid questionnaires were collected from five medical institutions. While positive correlations were noted between KAP scores, gastrointestinal surgery patients exhibited poor knowledge, positive attitudes, and moderate practices regarding postoperative pain management. Educational interventions are recommended, particularly targeting individuals with lower educational levels and unmarried statuses, to improve postoperative pain management practices in this patient population.
