Pamidronate versus zoledronic acid for the treatment of multiple myeloma–related hypercalcemia

The recent review by Bridoux et al.,1 in Kidney International, on the management of acute kidney injury in multiple myeloma states that pamidronate is preferred to zoledronic acid (ZA) for treating hypercalcemia in multiple myeloma due to lower risk of kidney complications. We do not believe this recommendation is supported by published data, including data cited by the authors.
