摘要
Methanol was discovered as a byproduct of charcoal production. Methanol finds increasingly more acceptance as an ideal blending component to conventional gasoline through increasing octane numbers and reducing emissions. Methanol is a colorless neutral liquid, which is completely miscible with water and most other organic solvents in any ratio. Methanol can be used in various mixing ratios with conventional petroleum products. Methanol has proven its ability to be used as sulfur free alternative fuel in fleet tests for passenger cars, buses, and trucks. Besides pure methanol fuels and methanol fuel blends, there are several other options for using alternative fuels or fuel additives derived from methanol. Detailed studies have shown that the storage as methanol is the most economical solution. New C.I. engine developments will allow increased use of methanol and other alcohols or their derivatives such as oxymethylene ether as clean, “soot-free” fuels being user-friendly and environmentally beneficial.
