Objective To study the efficacy and safety of early noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) in the treatment of patients with an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods From January 2011 to February 2012 in our hospital,72 patients with an acute exacerbation of COPD were selected and randomly divided into two groups, the control group(35 cases) received conventional therapy, while the observation group(37 cases) received early application of NPPV based on the conventional therapy. The efficacy and safety in both groups were compared and analyzed. Results The total effective rate of treatment group was 97.3%,significantly higher than 74.3% of the control group, the difference was statistically significant between two groups(P0.05);after the treatment, the pulmonary function indicators of both groups were improved significantly, and FEV1 and FVC of the observation group was improved more significantly(P0.05);There was no serious adverse reaction in both groups. Conclusion Early application of NPPV in the treatment of patients with an acute exacerbation of COPD has more satisfactory clinical efficacy and high safety, and can significantly improve patients’ lung function. It is the preferred regime for COPD.
