Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of glucocorticoid on optic neuritis(ON) and analyze the factors which may affect the therapeutic effect. Methods Retrospective analysis was taken on 68 patients(116 eyes) with ON in our hospital from January 1996 to January 2008.Results The effective power of glucocorticoid on treatment of ON was 72.41%.There was no statistical difference in visual recovery speed and therapeutic effect between group of normal dose dexamethasone and group of large dose methylprednisolone(P0.05);The therapeutic effect on children was the best,on youth and the middle-aged was better and on the old was the worst(P0.05);The therapeutic effect on patients whose courses of disease were shorter than 15 days was better than that on patients with courses longer than 15 days(P0.05);There was no statistical difference in therapeutic effect on patients with different admission vision(P0.05);The therapeutic effect on patients with neuropapillitis was better than that with papilloretinitis(P0.05).Conclusion The types and doses of glucocorticoid have no impact on the visual recovery speed and therapeutic effect on the treatment of ON.The older the patients are,the worse the therapeutic effect becomes; The longer the courses of disease are,the worse the therapeutic effect becomes; In the treatment of ON,the clinical types of optic neuritis may impact on the therapeutic effect to some extent and the admission vision may have no impact on the therapeutic effect.
