A β-O-4 type lignin model compound i.e. guaiacylglycerol-β-guaiacyl ether was synthesized. The technique of FT-IR and 1H-NMR were used to identify the chemical structure of the model compounds. After the lignin model compound was synthesized, pyrolysis was carried out at different temperatures. GC/MS was applied to analyze the products. The relationships between products and pyrolysis temperature are discussed.The results indicate that lignin model compounds were pyrolyzed to low molecular weight material such as guaiacol, 4-acetylguaiacol etc. at high temperature(400℃),while the kind of pyrolysis products increased at the same time.However,a lot of condensed lignin fragments were formed at much higher temperature(400℃).
