Objective To analyze the perioperative characteristics of elderly patients with pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary tumors. Methods The clinical data of 128 elderly patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary tumors were retrospectively analyzed.Among them,27 patients were aged 70~78 and 101 were aged 60~69.The perioperative characteristics were compared between the two groups. Results There were no statistical differences in postoperative 30-day mortality and morbidity between two groups;however, there were significant differences in electrocardiogram, chest X-ray and preoperative serum albumin levels between two groups. Conclusion Elderly patients are not a contraindication for pancreaticoduodenectomy;cautious selection of patients and careful perioperative management are keys for improvement of postoperative outcomes.
