Effect of edge preparation on the weldability of plastics in ultrasonic welding

The kinetic mechanism of the formation of welded joints with ‘preferential penetration’ and ‘preferential melting’ in ultrasonic welding of plastics is described. It is shown that the preparation of weld edges in ultrasonic welding of rigid plastics increases the welding speed.
