It has been carried out that a conceptual study to apply the hybrid power system for a compound rotary-wing UAV. Basically, the hybrid power system consists of engine, motor&generator, battery and controller. The hybrid system divided into two that are series-hybrid and parallel-hybrid, and the performance characteristics have been investigated along with the system configuration. In general, the series-hybrid system design is simple, but the parallel-hybrid system design is complex to fit the operation mode of the vehicle so the power can be supplied more effectively than the series-hybrid.
