The Role of Motivational and Affective Factors in L2 Writing Performance and Written Corrective Feedback Processing and Use

Research on the role of affective and motivational factors in second language (L2) writing and written corrective feedback (WCF) has not been conducted systematically due to the dominance of social and linguistic approaches in the field of L2 writing. Research in these areas, however, is gaining momentum. There have recently been more serious attempts to explore the role of affect and motivation in L2 writing processes and outcomes, which can potentially provide a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the dynamics of L2 writing and WCF. To promote research on the role of affective and motivational factors in L2 writing and WCF, this chapter provides an overview of research developments in these areas and outlines potential implications for research and practice.
