摘要
In a dynamic global environment, higher education cooperation is a driving force behind the advancement of scientific knowledge that offers potential solutions to world problems and global challenges. China and Europe have a long history of higher education exchange. In the literature, most papers on China–Europe higher education cooperation have focused on the development prior to the latest dramatic period of change. To fill this significant gap in knowledge and evidence, we develop a unified conceptual framework that links the modes of contemporary higher education cooperation in the context of China (globalization, glocalization, and Internationalization at Home), with the models of internationalized higher education institutions in the literature (classical, satellite, and co-founded). We then apply our analytical framework and examine three case studies: China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH), and Zhejiang University – University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE). Overall, our paper sheds light on how each China–Europe higher education cooperation model can tackle the global challenges faced by global society as in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
