Impact of the digital economy on public security: evidence from rural China

This study investigates the effects of the digital economy on rural public security using data from the China Labor-force Dynamics Survey and applies an instrumental variable approach to solve the endogeneity problem. The results reveal that the digital economy positively impact rural public security. According to a mechanism test, the digital economy has a significant positive impact on rural public security through increased nonagricultural employment and household income. Hence, this study argues that the digital economy has a significant influence on advancing public security.
