STUDIES on the process by which enlargement of the heart occurs1 2 3 4 have been aided by developments in molecular biology. Recent reviews in this journal have dealt with the information available on liver regeneration and compensatory growth of the kidney.5 , 6 As with the liver and the kidney, there is still a considerable lack of understanding of the molecular changes that occur during cardiac enlargement.
