Abstract The influence of ammonium sulfamate (AS) independently or in a combination with antimony trioxide (AO) and chloroparaffin (ChP)–70% chlorine, on the oxygen index (OI) values as a flammability indicator, as well as on some physicomechanical and thermal characteristics of filled and unfilled compositions for cables based on chloroprene rubber (ChR), is studied here. It is found out that, at definite concentrations, AS and AO reveal an additive effect as fire retardants, decreasing the rate of heat rlease on heating. AS reveals a plasticizing effect as well.
