To explore the hyperhomocysteinemia induced by the fitting dose of methionine and the effects of its metabolism,1%,2% and 3% of methionine diets were chosen to feed rats. The content of homocysteine, cysteine and glutathione in serum were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The results showed that the 1% of additional methionine could raise plasma homocysteine concentrations without growth suppression and other concomitant toxicity in rats,2% and 3% of additional methionine reduced both food intake and body weight. And the results also showed that the transsulfuration pathway of homocysteine could be reinforced by feeding excessive methionine.
