Biomass distribution pattern of degraded grassland in alpine meadow

The experiment was conducted in Kobresia humilis meadow in different degraded level. The results indicated that underground and aboveground biomass decreased with the aggravation of grassland degraded level, and underground biomass mainly distributes at a scale of 0~10 centimeters, and their sizes are significant larger than the others, and plant roots trended to gather in soil surface layer. Biomass of sedges and grasses declined and biomass of forbs increased with the aggravation of grassland-degraded level. Total aboveground biomass was far less than total underground biomass in light and medium degraded grassland, and there was few differences between heavy and extreme degraded grassland, especially, it is almost the same in extreme degraded grassland.
