Preliminary analysis of validity and reliability of revised “Situational Self-Awareness Scale”

AIM: To revise the “Situational Self-Awareness Scale” and to investigate the validity and reliability of the Chinese version. METHODS: Seven hundred and thirty-four undergraduates were assessed using different language versions and in different situations. The structural validity, content validity and reliability were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and other statistical methods. RESULTS: There was a good correlation of items between the Chinese version scale and the English version scale, with the range of correlation coefficient from 0.318 to 0.610. All the items in the Chinese version kept acorresponding relation with those in the English version except item 6 which due to loading changes was a public factor in Chinese version and not a private factor. The score of private factor assessed individually was significant higher than that assessed in group (t=3.06, P0.05) and the score of public factor was in the opposite way (t=3.36, P 0.05). Whether under the same or different situations, the test-retest reliability was good (P0.05), and the coefficient of the former was bigger than that of the latter. CONCLUSION: The “Situational Self-Awareness Scale” is revised successfully and the Chinese version scale has good validity and reliability.
