We are grateful to Martin Shepley and Kevin Voyce (Shepley & Voyce 2010) for taking an interest in our work on groundwater recharge in areas covered by superficial deposits and it is interesting to hear their perspectives on the related issue of the use of models for groundwater abstraction management in Shropshire. The focus of our paper was to illustrate the use of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) for developing a better constrained geological model to further the conceptual understanding of hydraulic processes controlling recharge though superficial deposits at the local scale.
