Study on the Sedative and Hypnotic Effects of Midazolam

Objective:To evaluate the sedative and hypnotic effects of midazolam.Methods:The effects of midazolam as sedative and hypnotics were studied by observing the spontaneous behavior,prolonged sleeping time cooperated with pentobarbital sodium and time of foreleg lifting in mice.Results:The results showed that Midazolam group could markedly inhibit spontaneous motion,enhance the slept number with pentobarbital sodium at subthreshold dosage,prolong the sleeping time with pentobarbital sodium at superthreshold dosage and markedly reduce the time of foreleg lifting in mice.Conclusions:Midazolam possesses obvious sedative and hypnotic effects.
