Objective: To establish an HPLC method for the determination of five alkaloids, jatrorrhizine hydrochloride, palmatine hydrochloride, berberine hydrochloride, evodiamine and rutaecarpine in Zuojin Pills Methods: A agilent C18 column was used with the mobile phase of methanol-acetonitrile-water with 0.015 mol SDS (20∶36∶44),at the detection wave length of 290 nm. at 25 ℃,The flow rate was 1 mL·min-1.Results: Jatrorrhizine hydrochloride had a good linearity in the range of 0.176-1.76 μg. The average recovery was 97.7% with RSD% of 1.3%. Palmatine hydrochloride had a good linearity in the range of 0.204-2.04 μg.The average recovery was 98.8% with RSD% of 1.5%.Berberine hydrochloride had a good linearity in the range of 0.364-3.64 μg.The average recovery was 99.5% with RSD% of 1.5% .Evodiamine had a good linearity in the range of 0.112-1.12 μg. The average recovery was 96.4% with RSD% of 1.9% .Rutaecarpine had a good linearity in the range of 0.144-1.14 μg.The average recovery was 98.1% with RSD% of 1.6%.Conclusion: This method is simple, accurate and reproducible. It can be used to determine jatrorrhizine hydrochloride, palmatine hydrochloride,berberine hydrochloride evodiamine and rutaecarpine together with the same chromatogram condition. It also provides reference for quality control of Zuojin pills preparations.
