Objective To evaluate the role of total mesorectal excision and double stapling technique in anus- saving operation for patients with low rectal cancer.Methods 56 patients with low rectal cancer who had the distance between the anal verge and low margin of the tumor was 4~7cm received anus-saving in colorectal anastomosis after anterior resection.Results There was no operation-related death.There were 1 case (1.8%)of anastomotic leak and 7 cases (12.5%)of anastomotic stricture.3 cases (5.4%)developed local recurrence including 2 cases at the anastomtic sites and 1 case in plvis.Conclusion The double stapling technique and total mesorectal excision provides a safe alternative for anus-saving operation in some selected patients with rectal cancer.
