Laws, Policies and Technologies For Stormwater Management in Europe

The European Water Framework(2000/60/EC) demands the improvement of chemical and ecological status of water bodies,and stormwater management is indispensable in order to reach its objectives.This paper makes a summary of the laws,policies and technologies of the stormwater management in EU countries.It is composed of three parts.The first part talks about the main Directives adapted by EU that involves stormwater management;the second part talks about the policies and technologies used by EU countries for stormwater treatment,more focus are taken to analyze the policy of stormwater fee,the drainage system and the best management practices(BMPs) in Europe;the third part has a comparable analysis about present states of the stormwater management in Germany and Greece.The former is one of the best countries carrying stormwater management and the latter hasn't paid much attention on stormwater yet.
