In Brief Recent studies have linked cardiovascular disease with the presence of a small, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) subclass pattern. This LDL subclass can now be measured more easily and inexpensively than before. An altered LDL subclass can identify cardiovascular disease risk, and practitioners can help high-risk patients by educating them about appropriate exercise and diet modification, and by prescribing appropriate medications.
