With the aim of increasing vehicle refinement, such factors as noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) have become increasingly important in vehicle design. Due to the number of sources of noise and vibration in their design, motor vehicles are said to pose severe problems with the trend towards lighter construction and higher engine speeds. The author demonstrates methods of vibration control through damping and also covers tyre and brake noise as well as sound transmission through noise isolation barriers.
