摘要
Nonwovens have a long history of use as separators for batteries. However, some types of electrochemical cells, including lithium ion batteries, have not used nonwovens. Recently, the use of nanofibers and very thin membranes has opened up the opportunity to create specialized nonwovens suitable for use in the most advanced energy storage devices, which include lithium ion batteries for portable electronics, electric vehicles, and industrial applications, and supercapacitors for electronics and power storage. Examples are given here of new products being developed and offered by companies around the world, which provide benefits such as improved safety, reduced thickness, reduced cost, and improved power capability.
