Two types strongly basic anion exchange resins were prepared by functionized of chloromethyl polystyrene with trialkylamines and nitration or bromination of chloromethyl polystyrene, followed by quaternization with trimethylamine. The thermostability of these resins OH form was examined by standing the resins in deionized water at 95℃~97℃ for 100 hours.Examination shows that sterically hindered quaternary ammonium resins exhibited higher thermal stability. The strongly basic anion exchange resins with electrophilic substituted group on aryl ring exhibited higher thermostability compared to conventional type I anion exchange resin in hot water. However, thermogravimetry showed that these samples had less stability at higher temperature.
