摘要
Severe plastic deformation of metals has been employed to achieve significant grain refinement and consequent strengthening of materials. Prominent techniques in this domain are Accumulative Roll Bonding (ARB) and Cross Accumulative Roll Bonding (CARB), which is a variation of the ARB process. ARB and CARB are also employed for manufacturing Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs), involving a variety of combined matrix materials and reinforcements. This review covers the existing literature on Aluminum ARB and CARB, including aspects on the bonding mechanisms, rolling parameters, formation of nano-scale grains and their role on the resulting product strengthening. Electrochemical, toughness, and fatigue aspects are also covered, as well as the manufacturing of heterostructured materials and possible future developments of both methods.
