Solar energy received at the surface of a solar pond is transmitted partly to the salt solution beneath and partly lost to the atmosphere. A portion of the energy traveling toward the bottom is absorbed in the body of the pond; and an appreciable portion of it strikes the blackened bottom. An attempt has been made to analytically predict the temperature rise of the solar pond in unsteady state conditions when no energy is extracted from it on the basis of a modified heat transfer model. 8 refs.
