POS-375 APOL1-RISK VARIANT PODOCYTOPATHIES ASSOCIATED WITH ITS CELLULAR RETENTION

Podocytes cells are known for their endogenous expression of APOL1. Though APOL1 is highly secreted protein from hepatocytes, its secretion by podocytes is still controversial. Past studies on APOL-1 transgenic podocyte and Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK) cells have failed to detect APOL1 in the culture medium. Here, we hypothesize that APOL1 secretion in podocyte and HEK cells adopt microvesicle (MV) secretion pathway rather than direct secretion to the medium.
