Postnatal development of carnosine and tyrosine hydroxylase in mouse olfactory bulbs was examined.Carnosine-positive fibers were initially noted in the olfactory nerve layer and glomerulus layer one day after birth. On days 1 through 5 after birth, penetration of numerous olfactory nerve fibers into the inner layer of the glomerulus was observed, indicating the high growth potential of olfactory nerve fibers. TH-positive cells were initially noted among the cells around the glomerulus on day 1 although their number was small and the density of dendritic processes was low. These cells surrounded the glomerulus by day 5, and exhibited an approximately mature form by days 10-13.Regarding development of the glomerulus around the olfactory bulb, the results from the present study suggest that development of the glomerulus and peri-glomerular cells is approximately parallel.
