Achievement and time perception — a South African perspective

It is reasoned that the lack of productivity in South Africa can be changed by influencing people’s time perception. Some 6 840 students (3 013 high and 2 326 low achievers) were questioned. Two scales were identified, namely, the active integrated and passive fatalistic time perception scales. The primary findings were that high achievers obtained significantly higher scores than low achievers on the active integrated time perception scale. Increasing tendencies on this scale were noted for both groups. Furthermore, high achievers obtained lower scores than low achievers on the passive fatalistic time perception scale. A decreasing tendency for high achievers was evident.
