Research Article| April 01 2019 Finding Armenia in Alan Hovhaness's Symphony No. 8 (Arjuna) and Madras Sonata Rachel Chacko Rachel Chacko Rachel Chacko is an associate professor of music at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where she teaches courses in music history, music theory, and flute performance. Her research focuses on American composers' experiments in cross-cultural composition during the twentieth century and American avant-garde artistic practices on the US West Coast. Her work on Lou Harrison's cross-cultural pieces for gamelan and Western instruments has been published in American Music and the Journal of the Society for American Music.
