Objective To investigate the effects of tetramethylpyrazine(TMP) on cerebral infarction. Methods 136 patients were randomly divided into the tetramethylpyrazine-treat group(72 patients) and the control group(64 patients).Clinical outcomes were taken in all patients 14 days after treatment.Hemorheological indices were taken before treatment and 14 days after treatment.Tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α) levels were checked in 1,2,and 7 days after treatment. Results The total effective rate in the tetramethylpyrazine-treat group was 89.9%,much higher than 75% of the control group(P0.05).There was significant difference in all the hemorheological indices before and after treatment in treated group(P0.05).In the control group,no other index except serum viscosity and fibrinogen was different between before and after treatment.TNFα level was much lower in the first and second days in the tetramethylpyrazine-treat group than the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Tetramethylpyrazine is a brain protective agent, which is very safe and effective and can be popularized.
