Objective To study the preventive effects of AduoLa Fuzhenglin(ADL),a compound Chinese traditonal medicine,on the injury to Nissl bodies in rat brain neurons induced by microwave irradiation.Methods One hundred forty male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups randomly: normal control(25 rats),microwave radiation control(25 rats),0.75 g/(kg·d) ADL(30 rats),1.5 g/(kg·d) ADL(30 rats) and 3 g/(kg·d) ADL(30 rats) groups.The rats in all ADL groups were lavaged with ADL per day for 2 weeks before irradiation.After ADL administration,the rats were exposed to 30 mW/cm2 microwave for 15 min.The changes of neuron Nissl bodies in hippocampus and cortex of rat brains were observed with toluidine blue staining and image analysis at 6 h,7 d and 14 d after radiation. Results The contents of Nissl bodies in hippocampus and cortex were significantly decreased(P0.05) at 6 h and recovered to normal level at 7 d in the radiation control and 0.75 g/(kg·d) ADL groups compared with the normal group after microwave irradiation.However,the contents of Nissl bodies were not decreased in the 1.5 and 3 g/(kg·d) ADL groups compare with that in the control group.Conclusions 30 mW/cm2 microwave irradiation may cause a decrease of the content of Nissl bodies of neurons in the hippocampus and cortex of rats.ADL at the dosages of 1.5 g/(kg·d) and 3 g/(kg·d) has a preventive effect on the injury induced by microwave irradiation,while 1.5 g/(kg·d) ADL is an effective dosage to prevent neuron injury.
