Effect of MMS Addiction on User's Health and Academic Performance in an Era of Convergence

최근 서비스 경영이나 경영 정보 연구에서 서비스 중독에 대해 많은 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 서비스 중독은 사용자들의 건강과 업무 성과 저하 등 여러 부정적 결과들을 발생시킨다. 이런 맥락에서 본 연구에서는 모바일 메신저 서비스(MMS) 중독이 사용자들의 건강 문제와 학업 성과 문제에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 MMS 중독의 선행 요인으로 개인적 특성과 서비스 특성을 고려하였다. 카카오톡을 자주 사용하는 대학생 162명을 대상으로 연구 모형을 분석하였으며, PLS을 활용하였다. MMS 중독은 건강 문제와 학업 성과 문제에 유의적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 자기 존중감과 자기 통제력은 MMS 중독에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 집중은 MMS 중독 형성에 핵심적인 역할을 담당하였지만, 사회적 관계 형성과 인지된 즐거움은 MMS 중독에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 연구 분석 결과를 바탕으로 MMS 제공업체들이나 정부는 사용자들의 MMS 중독 메커니즘 이해를 통해 중독 예방을 할 수 있는 효과적인 정책을 수립할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. Given social problems of service addiction such as mobile messenger services(MMSs), many studies on service management and information systems have examined the negative outcomes of service addiction. MMS addiction significantly influences user's health and academic performance. In this regard, this study investigated the effects of MMS addiction on user's health and academic performance problems. We posit personal traits and service features as key antecedents of MMS addiction. The research framework was tested by using survey data collected from 162 university students who have frequently used Kakaotalk. The analysis results found that MMS addiction significantly influences users' health and academic performance problems. The findings of this study indicate that self-esteem and self-control play an important role in generating MMS addiction. While attention significantly affects MMS addiction, social relationship formation and perceived enjoyment are not significantly associated with MMS addiction. The analysis results help MMS providers and government establish policies or guidelines to induce healthy MMS use.
